Intro
Today we made hydrophobic sand which is basically sand that can't get wet. First we got the reptile sand and sprayed it with silicon spray usually used for carpets. After spraying for about five times it was finally ready we put it in some water and it actually worked!
Looking Back?
Looking back our experiment turned out really well. We did every step right and we got the outcomes we were expecting.
Looking beyond?
The chemistry beyond This lab is the fact that the reptile sand doesn't dissolve into the water. It doesn't dissolve because we sprayed it with a hydrophobic spray so that is doesn't get wet. Hydro means water and phobic means fear of so it doesn't mix with water.
Looking inward?
I would say I got desirable results our sand didn't dissolve in the water and when we picked it up from the water it was completely dry.
looking Outward?
I worked with Meech and Marco for this lab. We have worked together before and we worked really well together on this lab as well.
Looking forward?
Although this lab was fun I don't think I would ever do this lab again but if I had to this lab again I would try of different substances.
Take away?
My take away from this was learning how to make pollar objects out of a polar substances.
